Campaigners often handle sensitive information, about supporters, about strategy, sometimes about people in vulnerable situations, which makes basic digital security, strong unique passwords, careful handling of shared documents, a genuinely practical concern rather than an optional extra. Treating it as optional tends to catch up with a campaign eventually.
Good digital security also protects the people a campaign represents, since a data breach or a compromised account can expose information that causes real harm to someone who trusted the campaign to handle their details carefully. That trust, once broken, is genuinely hard to rebuild afterward, no matter how it happened.
Building simple digital security habits, using trusted tools, being cautious about what is shared where, does not require deep technical expertise, but it does require treating the issue as a genuine priority rather than something to address only after a problem has already occurred. Prevention here is far cheaper than any later repair.
