Why debriefing after a campaign matters

A debrief creates dedicated space to reflect honestly on what a campaign, or a particular action within it, actually achieved, what went differently than expected, and how everyone involved is feeling once the immediate pressure of the moment has finally passed and calm slowly returns to the team.

Without a debrief, lessons tend to stay locked inside individual memories rather than becoming something the wider team can learn from together, which means the same avoidable mistakes are more likely to be repeated the next time a similar situation arises for the team, sometimes within the same campaign.

Debriefing also gives people emotional closure after an intense period, offering a structured moment to acknowledge effort and process what happened, rather than simply moving straight on to the next task without ever properly marking that the previous one has genuinely ended for everyone involved, which itself can leave people feeling perpetually unfinished and slightly on edge.
