The role of a management committee
Launch library · evergreen read

A management committee provides oversight of a campaign's decisions and resources, typically meeting regularly to review progress, approve significant spending, and ensure the campaign continues to operate within its stated purpose and any legal obligations that apply to it. Regular meetings, rather than occasional ones, keep that oversight genuinely meaningful over time.
This oversight role is distinct from day to day management, since a committee generally sets direction and checks accountability rather than running operations itself, which allows staff or lead volunteers to act efficiently within boundaries the committee has agreed. Blurring that boundary tends to slow decisions without actually improving them.
A functioning committee needs members who are genuinely engaged and willing to ask difficult questions, since a committee that simply approves whatever is presented to it provides very little of the actual oversight that good governance depends on. Recruiting members for their independence, not just their goodwill, matters considerably here.
