Campaigning sometimes involves sharing contact details, addresses or other personal information with an organisation, and it is reasonable to ask how that information will be stored, who can access it, and whether it will be shared with anyone else. A vague answer to that question deserves a follow up question.

Providing only the information genuinely required for a specific purpose, rather than everything a form happens to request, is a simple habit that limits your exposure if that information is ever mishandled or exposed. Extra fields on a form do not always need an honest, detailed answer from you, however official the form looks.

A campaign that takes personal information seriously will usually be able to explain clearly how it protects that information, and a reluctance to answer that question plainly is worth treating as a genuine caution flag before sharing further details. A confident, specific answer is the reassuring sign worth looking for.
