How community organising builds long term capacity
Launch library · evergreen read

Capacity built through organising includes skills, relationships, structures and confidence, all of which remain available to a community long after a specific campaign concludes, whether that campaign succeeded, failed, or landed somewhere genuinely in between the two. That residue is the real, lasting return on the effort, long after the campaign itself is over.
This capacity is often more valuable over time than any single campaign's outcome, since a community that has learned to organise effectively can respond to future challenges far more quickly and confidently than one that has never built that particular muscle. The muscle, once built, does not simply disappear.
Recognising capacity building as a genuine goal, worth investing in deliberately rather than treating as an incidental byproduct, shapes how organisers plan a campaign, favouring approaches that develop local leadership even when a faster, less participatory shortcut might otherwise be available. That deliberate choice pays off well beyond any single campaign.
