Relying on a single funding source leaves a campaign vulnerable if that source changes its priorities or simply becomes unavailable, which is why many campaigns deliberately cultivate several different funding streams rather than depending on just one. That vulnerability is easy to overlook while the single source remains reliable.

Diversifying might mean combining individual donations, grants, membership fees and occasional fundraising events, each appealing to a different kind of supporter and each carrying its own particular risks and requirements worth understanding separately. Learning the demands of each stream takes real time, but it pays off considerably later.

Building this kind of diversity takes time and deliberate effort, but it gives a campaign considerably more resilience, since a shortfall in one funding stream is far less likely to threaten the whole campaign if other sources remain steady. That resilience is rarely appreciated until it is actually tested by a real shortfall.
